The arc

From Rails engineer to holding-company operator.

It started in 2012 with Ruby on Rails. Fourteen years later the through-line is the same: walk into the work, find the constraint, rewire it, and leave behind a team that can run it. The titles changed; the loop never did.

  • 2012

Started on Rails. The first line of Ruby — and still the stack under almost everything Brainz runs today.

  • 2016–2021

Director of IT, ROEPA International. Owned technology for an industrial trading group operating between Europe and Latin America: a microservices ERP plus cloud and on-premise clusters across several countries. Ten years on, the relationship is still active. Read the case →

  • 2020–2022

CTO, Symplifica. Scaled the customer base 3.6× — from 25,000 to 90,000 users — on a rebuilt Rails platform, and tripled revenue while holding server cost flat.

  • 2022–2025

Head of Engineering, Picap LATAM. Grew daily bookings from 35,000 to 90,000, cut monthly cloud cost from US$250K to US$110K, and led a team of 89 — 60 of them engineers — across five countries. Featured by DigitalOcean and MongoDB. Read the case →

  • 2025

Co-founded Brainz with Laura Murcia. Bootstrapped — no outside capital. Built Brainz Lab, the AI operating system the portfolio runs on, and took LexPro from zero to a registered company with live payments. Read the case →

  • 2026

Agent-native, in production. As CTO & COO in enterprise process automation, architected an agent-native platform — 70+ MCP tools, 630+ connectors — and launched AI as a revenue-generating product. At Brainz, The Method gets written down.

Walk in, name the constraint, rewire how the work flows, leave behind a team that can run it. The same loop, six times.

How Brainz is built

A long horizon. No outside capital.

Brainz is co-founded by Andres and Laura Murcia and bootstrapped: no outside capital, no investors to answer to. The model is a Basecamp-style incubator — cover the team at market rate, route the surplus into the next product, and when an idea hits, the operator who built it becomes its CEO. We don’t extract margin from the people doing the work.
